Repairing hearts without surgery
Book Review
‘BYPASSING BYPASS SURGERY’ by Dr. Pratiksha Reeg Deb and Dr. Elmer Cranton, Institute of Preventive Cardiology Foundation, Distributed by India Book House, Mumbai – 400 026, Price 295/- Pages 274.
Mending stricken, diseased hearts without surgery and at a cost of less than one-sixth of the cost, is what this book is all about. It advocates Chelation therapy. Chelation improves metabolic and circulatory function by rebalancing and removing mental ions in the body. This is accomplished by administering a synthetic amino acid, ethylenediaminetetracetate (EDTA) in a doctor’s clinic.
This obviates the need for prolonged hospitalization and is an effective alternative to bypass surgery and angioplasty or stents. EDTA chelation offers a greatly improved quality of life to heart patients.
The treatment requires the patient to visit the doctor’s clinic about 30 times. Dr. Pratiksha Reeg Deb has a record of about 5000 successful cases of chelation therapy over the last seven years. It is substantiated by several case studies and testimonials from ‘cured’ patients. The book describes how the therapy works and what it does, from the experiences of both Dr. Pratiksha and Dr. Cranton.
Dr. Pratiksha claims “Industry makes good use of the chelation principle. Chelates are used in household cleaners …. to reduce the ring around the bathtubs cum buildup. Binding with calcium and magnesium, chelates soften hard-water. In much the same way, EDTA removes and rebalances abnormal metal ions in the body, reducing the production of free radicals and improving enzyme function.”
The case against bypass surgery is simple : What good is bypassing one small segment of an artery when the rest of the circulatory system is undoubtedly affected as well? Chelation offers a chemical antidote to the buildup of plaque.
Dr. Cranton lists various myths about the causes of heart ailments. Thus, food is not the primary source of cholesterol, two-thirds of which is produced by the body cells. Cholesterol is harmless and even beneficial, if it is not oxidized. It is essential for life and health in its natural form. Antioxidant supplements (like citric fruits) protect cholesterol from this damage.
He also dispels the myth that vigorous sports and physical activity protects one from developing atherosclerosis, or that hardening of the arteries begins with buildup of calcium deposits to form plaque.
Chelation therapy (the injection of EDTA intravenously, for as many as 50 times over a period of a few months) offers better circulation to the heart with a lowered risk of heart attack and fewer symptoms of pain or palpitation.
‘BYPASSING BYPASS SURGERY’, first published in the US by Dr. Cranton, has sold 2,00,000 copies. This is the first Indian publication with six chapters by Dr. Pratiksha, recounting her own experiences. She practices chelation therapy reinforced by a set of yoga exercises and meditation. The yoga asanas aim at improving circulation, provide relaxation and improve breathing techniques.
Well produced (on art paper) and illustrated, the book should form compulsory reading for everyone at a time when modern life-styles, stress and conditions of living have made even 30 year olds susceptible to severe heart ailments.
